Medications

Dr. Zaman believes strongly in responsible medication prescribing.  While there is a place for use of prescription medications, including opioids, they are prescribed judiciously, if at all.

Since most flare-ups of spinal pain will subside spontaneously, and since nerve or "neuropathic" pain is poorly treated with opioids, also known as "narcotics", he rarely prescribes them. He does not believe in opioid usage for chronic pain management, because no evidence exists to indicate that opioids are effective for long term use.  If you are presenting to his clinic, with the expectation that he will take over prescribing opioids that were initially started by another clinician, this is unlikely to occur.

If reasonable and necessary, medications such as anti-inflammatories, muscle relaxers, and acetaminophen may be prescribed.
